We recently completed a beautiful remodel in Oak Park, Illinois. The owner wanted an updated kitchen that would fit in with the style of their very traditional home. So we moved some things around:
- We took out the peninsula and replaced it with an island
- We moved the door that connected the dining room to the kitchen
- We extended the cabinets down that wall to give workspace to the left of the stove
- We used all the wall space to incorporate a small bench by the window
- We rebuilt the space where the refrigerator is now built-in to optimize the walkway and take advantage of unused closet space that is actually under the landing of the main stairs in the house
When it comes to design, we used white painted cabinets to lighten up the area in a transitional style door. Special features worth mentioning include a farmhouse sink, a pantry next to the refrigerator with a microwave hidden away, a special trash and recycle pullout next to the sink, a cabinet that acts as a coat closet by the back door, and taller upper cabinets with crown to take advantage of the full ceiling height.
